SAP Simplifies Mobile Access For Enterprise Workers...Offers New Solution for Enterprise Technology

SAP AG has announced a new rapid-deployment solution that simplifies access to analytics on mobile devices, enabling enterprise customers to put real-time insight in the hands of their workers for better, more informed decisions on the go. The SAP Mobile Analytics rapid-deployment solution offers preconfigured software, implementation services, content and end-user enablement.
It puts both a fixed scope and price for creating a mobile channel into existing SAP HANA platform and SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence (BI) solutions or populating pre-existing mobile apps with data analytics. SAP can have mobilised data analytics up and running for enterprise customers in as little as three weeks or less.
“An important element to unlocking the value of big data through business analytics is being able to push real-time insight to all levels of enterprise employees,” said Dan Vesset, Program Vice President, Business Analytics at IDC. “Close to 40 percent of enterprises are planning to increase the number of users with mobile access to their BI and analytics solutions.
Once an analytics platform is in place, these organisations can benefit significantly from a faster and lower risk solution, like the SAP Mobile Analytics rapid-deployment solution, for extending that platform with mobile capabilities to drive real-time decision-making."
SAP Mobile Analytics offers comprehensive, real-time access on the performance and metrics of a company through popular mobile devices. Workers no longer need to go through a chain of processes to get the information they need. The data is presented through a user-friendly mobile app that can produce reports, charts and graphs. A sync option with SAP HANA significantly bolsters the quality and speed in analytics mobile apps, enabling workers to pull down analytics in a fraction of the time. All the end users and generated content are managed on a single platform, cutting down on complexity.
As part of an end-to-end solution, customers can achieve broader capabilities by layering additional rapid-deployment solutions along with SAP Mobile Analytics in an “assemble-to-order” approach.
“SAP is extending the power of SAP HANA and BI to mobile devices in the enterprise,” said Bernd Welz, Senior Vice President and Global Head, Solution & Knowledge Packaging, SAP. “We are bringing workers closer to analytics all within a framework that any enterprise customer can deploy with lower costs and fewer risks along the way.”

JUMIA versus KONGA: When online shops do Battle!

Online Shopping in Nigeria is still a relatively new idea gently taking root. Several online shopping malls and eShopping sites have established themselves with their customers of recent, and some are already becoming household names. Jumia (which was of recent known as Kasuwa) and Konga are some of them. With the current CBN-led awareness campaign to integrate the cash-less policy in Nigeria, online shopping has been identified as the presumed biggest gainers should the scheme gain a foothold.

These two notable online stores (Jumia and Konga) have become prominent above all other players in this new segment. Their advertising campaigns on Facebook and other social media is literally off-the-hook. They have even taken a step further by using conventional media (radio and print) to gain more visibility.
They have new deals and packages almost everyday, and they have products in almost all relevant categories.  Now, while it might be easy to get lost in the sheer awesomeness of Jumia and Konga, sometimes, it is good to review both and determine which of them is actually better.

Product Diversity
Variety being the spice of life, you probably want an online store where you can get more of several products rather than a scanty limitation. Well, Jumia and Konga seem to have done a great deal of work here. In whatever category you look, you would see that they have a rich product stock. But one glaring difference between both online shops has to be the varieties that are obtainable from both shops. While Konga showcases as many goods categories as Jumia, one remarkable difference between the two would probably be in the varieties available in the latter than the former. Jumia has been able to distinguish itself in this area with an array of products in every category – from books, films, electronics, gadgets, etc.
Price Differentials
Because the real determinant for shop patronage (be it physical or online) is cost advantage over competitions, the case is not different between Jumia and Konga. On face value, both shops are noted for lower prices for goods advertised. Relying on the fact that online shops have lower over-head costs over physical ones, these online shops has the ability to sell at discounted prices. Despite this similarity, Konga has distinguished itself in the area of better marginal discount than Jumia for most of its products offerings. Majority of the offerings on Jumia are at par or higher in cost than is even obtainable in conventional shops.
Online payment
Online shopping is made easier when integrated with a robust and versatile payment platform that accommodates as many payment options as possible. A system that accepts MasterCard, Visa, Verve, PayPal, and eTranzact cards has become inevitable in operating an online store. This makes it convenient for both buyers and shops thereby increasing the propensity to make more sales and carry less cash. On this count, Konga and Jumia cannot be faulted as the payment platforms available on both sites are robust enough to accommodate all payment options available in Nigeria.
Delivery
The major determinant of a successful online shop is logistics. The speed, efficiency and effectiveness of delivery of purchased goods, is the hallmark of a serious player in this sector. While a seamless online payment platform may not be a must for online shops, a guaranteed delivery mechanism will differentiate between a good shop and a bad one. Though Jumia and Konga has developed unique logistics for delivery of purchases in Lagos and other major cities, the latter is arguable a better choice in on-time, real-time delivery (at least in Lagos).
What Konga lacks in variety of goods, they make up in speed and promptness of delivery. For a delivery that’ll probably take Jumia seven (7) working days to deliver, Konga can do in two (2).
Customer Service
Another differentiating factor in any business of course is the manner of customer relationship on offer. For a business that is less reliant on human interference, it cannot afford any less value placed on customer service. Customer service, especially for online e-commerce sites goes beyond ‘thank you for shopping with us’ slogan. The relationship with customers for online shops must then incorporate both professionalism with a personal ‘human’ touch. Calling online shoppers by name during delivery as well as confirming their acceptance of the goods they purchased, will go a long way in winning such customer for a long time. For Jumia, such practice is limited only to a slight acknowledgement of the buyer, without any real interest for a repeat purchase. During research, it was discovered that the customer care staff of Jumia actually believes they are performing a social duty rather than sales. When the same procedure was repeated with Konga, it was discovered that the staff had a better hold on customer service with courteousness and yearn for repeat business.
Value-added services
Though there may be several extra services both online shops offer to their customers, one of the most remarkable (for an online store) is that offered by Jumia that allows shoppers to ‘check-out’ without payment. The payment is then done in cash on delivery. With this strategy, shoppers without a valid e-payment option can still shop online, make purchases and have them delivered and then pay on delivery. Up until recently, Konga was not offering this service but due to pressure has started the same practice. But with the latter now combining this ‘buy-now-pay-later’ offer with their traditional speedy delivery, it’s no surprise they are still better even in value added service.
Conclusion
Jumia and Konga are spending tons of money to reach people that are not even online, while everyone enviously looks on. But looked at from another perspective, they aren’t advertising Jumia and Konga – even if they think they are. What they are actually advertising is e-commerce itself. If Jumia and Konga are spending all this money…money that the average e-commerce startup doesn’t have — to attract the attention of an offline audience …an audience that the average e-commerce startup cannot reach — some of whom might eventually wind up on other sites…because they are now online – then some thanks are in order.
But of importance has to be the terms and conditions these online shops have. Without much legal backing for online purchases in the Nigerian law books, it is then imperative that the proponents of this business should focus efforts in protecting the overall interests of the shoppers than making easy money.

EMC, IBM dominate NetApp in Storage Market for Middle East and Africa

The Nigerian market has continued to drive the resurgence of the external storage market in the Middle East and Africa region, with impressive results that has seen EMC and IBM dominating in that market. The external storage market in the Middle East and Africa  (MEA) region suffered a year-on-year decline in the last quarter of 2012,  according  to  the  latest  data from International Data Corporation (IDC),  the  premier  global  provider  of  market  intelligence,  advisory services,  and events for the information technology, telecom, and consumer technology  markets.  Referencing its EMEA Quarterly Disk Storage Systems
Tracker, the research firm today announced that external storage revenue in the MEA region plummeted year on year in Q4 2012 to total $272 million, with terabyte capacity rising slightly by a modest 8% over the same period.
''The  decline  can be attributed to a considerable reduction in the number of  projects  in  the  MEA  region  involving  large-scale deployments when compared to previous years," says Swapna Subramani, senior research analyst at  IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. "However, we remain bullish on the external  storage  trend  moving forward owing to the overall resilience of the  market,  which  will  be  bolstered  by  new  projects  and government initiatives in the health and education sectors."
In the Middle East, Saudi Arabia was the only country to register strong year-on-year growth, expanding 60% in Q4 2012. "This growth was driven by several projects in the Kingdom’s telecommunications and education sectors," says Subramani.
The UAE external storage market experienced a 3% year-on-year decline in revenue during Q4 2012, while in contrast Qatar posted modest growth of 9%, fueled by demand from the government and education sectors. "IDC expects to see further growth within the government, automotive, financial services, and petrochemicals sectors, among others in the region," says Subramani.
The   North   Africa  region  (including  Morocco,  Algeria,  and  Tunisia) experienced  a  continued  slump in Q4 2012 as a result of political unrest and  spiraling  inflation.  South Africa also faced a decline in Q4 2012 owing to the seasonal/cyclical trend of infrastructure uptake in the country.  Nigeria  was  the  bright spot within the African market, posting healthy  double-digit  growth  that  can  be  attributed  to  deals  in the financial   and  telecommunications  sectors.  ‘‘Enterprise deals in key verticals will continue  to  play a pivotal role in shaping trends in the African storage market,'' says Subramani.
From  a  protocol perspective, Infiniband once again experienced tremendous year-on-year growth. Telecom-industry investments helped drive double-digit growth for NAS and DAS protocols, while RAID dominated redundancy with over 99% share  of  all shipped models. Mid-range devices dominated the storage class with over 58% share of external storage devices.
From a vendor perspective, EMC retained its top spot in the market with over 48% share on the back of sizeable projects in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Nigeria.  IBM secured second place with just over 14% share, although the vendor suffered a decline in revenue year on year. Netapp placed third with just over 10% share, while HP followed closely behind with just under 10% share of the MEA market. Dell witnessed a stark decline in revenue with 4% share in the last quarter of 2012.
IDC’s EMEA Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker provides timely market information on the disk storage systems market in Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), and the Middle East and Africa. Markets can be measured in terms of new storage capacity shipped, factory value, and end-user value of shipments. The tracker provides insight into the impact of market changes, key trends, and the results of vendors' new product, marketing, and channel activities.

IDC predicts Tablets to Overtake PC Market by 2016 in Middle East and Africa

The Middle East and Africa (MEA) tablet market posted a much better than anticipated year-on-year growth rate – reaching a total of 1.36 million units for the fourth quarter of 2012. This is according to the latest results released by International Data Corporation (IDC), the premier global market intelligence and advisory firm for the information technology and telecommunications markets.

The overall MEA tablet market in 2012 grew by 90% year-on-year. This surge is the result of a number of factors, including cheaper tablet entrants, reduced prices by vendors, and overall rising consumer demand for these devices. Increasing interest in tablets as an educational tool will ensure further strong growth throughout the MEA region.

"Currently, tablets are used predominantly as entertainment devices" says Victoria Mendes, a research analyst with Personal Computing, Systems and Infrastructure Solutions at IDC. "However, we expect to see bigger demand for tablets in the corporate segment. In particular, we expect OEMs to use the enhanced features and capabilities of the Windows 8 platform to lure their existing corporate clients into adopting tablets for their organizations. This will, however, have to be coupled with lowered prices, as tablets running on the Windows 8 operating system are much more expensive than those running on Android OS, especially in light of the tough economic situation," she added.

From an operating systems perspective, the share of iOS in the MEA region is expected to decline, while Android and Windows will continue to grow throughout the forecast period. "Low-cost models are expected to be one of the key contributors towards the growth of the tablet market, boosting the share of Android as well," says Fouad Charakla, research manager at IDC.

"However, these low-cost tablets will not be considered as primary computing devices by most end-users." "International vendors are trying to keep up with the exploding number of low-cost tablets through the introduction of smaller screen sizes and slightly lower-end models, to cater to cash-strapped consumers", notes Mendes. "This could mean that any advancement in terms of new features and higher end processing may be compromised in order to gain market share in the short term."

At a country level, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are expected to continue to contribute the most to the growth of the MEA region. The Saudi market in particular is very price sensitive and, as such, the market volume share of low-cost tablets is expected to increase heavily.

Tablets are ideal for easy connectivity and portability. They represent a category in between traditional notebooks and mini notebooks, as they are more portable than the former and more powerful than the latter. This is expected to be a major driver of the tablet market's growth in the MEA region throughout the forecast period.

Since the first tablet was introduced, this category has quickly gained market share and is expected to capture further share of the overall market. IDC expects tablet shipments to exceed portable PC shipments in the MEA region by 2016.
